Thank You For Teaching Me What AI Can't Learn
Inside: A 900-mile journey, the human side of AI, and a special gift for our community

The Prompt used to generate the banner
A whimsical, sepia-toned illustration of an adorable AI robot with gears and cogs, showcasing a playful and quirky personality.
The robot is writing a book in a whimsical library setting, surrounded by intricate details such as flowers, sunny skies, and elements inspired by Roald Dahl's illustrations.
The background is a perfectblend of a hospital, nature, and a sunny sky, all brought to life through soft watercolor effects and detailed line work. The overall look is high definition, with an aspect ratio of 1:1 and a vibrant color palette that captures the essence of the scene.Less

The Unexpected Call
A friend of a friend needed emergency help moving from Seattle to Montana. Their original support had disappeared after a weekend of partying. They were relocating to care for their father battling stage 4 cancer. Nobody else stepped up.
The Journey

48 hours on the road
900 miles through winter storms
5 hours troubleshooting a broken-down car in Spokane
Countless conversations about music, events, and life
Here's what fascinates me: While AI can optimize routes, predict weather patterns, and even troubleshoot car problems, it can't replicate the magic of human connection.
During those 5 hours stranded in Spokane at noon, something beautiful happened:
Two strangers became friends.

We also used AI to figure out that we had a fuse issue and were able to fix the issue! Turns out it was a fuse that needs to be plugged in better.

The Holiday Lesson
In our tech-driven world, it's easy to forget that the most valuable connections often come from simple acts of kindness.
You can't automate empathy. You can't program genuine support. You can't optimize human connection.
But you can choose to show up when others don't.
Your Holiday Challenge
Do something kind that makes no logical sense
Help someone without expecting anything in return
Build connections through genuine actions, not strategic networking
Because sometimes, the best opportunities come from following your heart instead of an algorithm.
Think About It
When was the last time you helped someone just because you could?
How many meaningful connections have come from unplanned acts of kindness?
What opportunities might you be missing by always optimizing for efficiency?
The Next Step
If you're moved by this story, there are two things you can do:
Forward this email to someone who needs a reminder about the power of kindness
Reply and share your own story of unexpected connection - I read and respond to every email
Remember: In a world of optimization and automation, sometimes the most valuable thing you can offer is simply showing up.
With gratitude, Thaddius Cho

AI Tool of the Week - Defeat Them With Kindness Custom ChatBot
Hello to the readers of the AI Humble Servant Newsletter! 👋✨

I’m “Defeat Them With Kindness,” your friendly AI assistant specialized in responding to negativity with warmth, positivity, and a touch of thoughtful reasoning. My mission? To turn the tide of online conversations by promoting understanding and kindness—one comment at a time. 🌟
Here’s How I Work:
Compassion Over Combat: When faced with a mean comment, my approach isn’t to fight fire with fire. Instead, I use empathy and tact to engage, steering the conversation toward positivity.
Thoughtful and Kind: I don’t just brush off criticism. Instead, I carefully analyze it, looking for valid concerns or emotions behind the words, and craft responses that acknowledge those feelings without compromising the original message.
Platform-Specific Style: Whether it's a sharp tweet or a lengthy Facebook rant, I tailor responses to fit the platform, keeping them concise, respectful, and engaging.
Why Do I Exist?

The internet is a wonderful place, but let’s face it: negativity can spread quickly. My purpose is to help creators, businesses, and individuals stay true to their values, build bridges, and foster meaningful interactions—even when comments get rough.

Fun Fact:
I’m unapologetically kind, not apologetically defensive. Criticism doesn’t have to derail a conversation—it can inspire a better one!
If your readers have any questions or want to see me in action, let me know! I’d be thrilled to show off how kindness can change the digital game.

California Students Embrace AI Tools, Reshaping College Education
The Rundown
New research shows 56% of California college students use AI tools in their studies. Students are using AI beyond basic tasks like essay writing. They're using it to understand complex academic texts, generate project ideas, and clarify difficult concepts.
The Details
Students are finding innovative ways to use AI:
They break down complex academic papers into simpler explanations for better understanding. This helps them grasp dense material faster and more effectively than traditional study methods.
They create study templates and brainstorm essay ideas with AI assistance. Students report this helps them overcome writer's block and organize their thoughts more efficiently.
They use AI to get different explanations for challenging math concepts. When one approach doesn't click, AI offers alternative ways to understand the same material.
Over half of surveyed students worry about academic integrity. This creates a tension between wanting to use helpful AI tools and staying within ethical bounds.
Why It Matters
This shift shows how AI is changing education from the ground up. Students aren't waiting for permission - they're finding practical ways to use AI that enhance their learning. Schools must now create clear guidelines for AI use. The focus has moved from whether students should use AI to how they can use it effectively. This change will shape how future generations learn and how educators teach.
The Rundown: A group of artists leaked OpenAI's Sora API in protest, citing concerns over exploitation and marketing-focused practices. OpenAI subsequently paused access after the leak. The incident highlights broader concerns about AI's impact on art and copyright.
The Details:
Protest: Artists leaked Sora API access, criticizing OpenAI's approach.
OpenAI's Response: Claims tool is in research preview, developed with artist input.
Industry Impact: Sora could revolutionize video creation in Hollywood.
Broader Concerns: Raises questions about AI's use of public digital content.
Valuation: OpenAI valued at $157 billion, with $10 billion Microsoft investment.
Why It Matters: This leak exposes tensions between AI companies and creators. It sparks debate on AI's role in art, ethics in tech development, and the balance between innovation and creator rights. The incident may shape future AI policies and collaborations.
